Stingray

Stingray(Taeniura melanospilos )The body shape is rounded, quite disk-like, and slightly raised at the edges. The eyes are set in a raised position and immediately behind them are the large spiracles which allow the animal to breathe, even when it is lying on the sea bottom. The back is rough, due to the presence of tubercules. The tail, which is longer than the diameter of the disk, has one or two venomous spines with serrated edges. The back is greyish with brown or black spots. The belly is light in color. These animals can be found upon sheltered sandy seabeds or in underwater grottos. They grow to be as much as one meter in diameter.
